FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL VISITOR CENTER
Stoystown, Pennsylvania
Architect: Paul Murdoch Architects
System: Glass, Single Slope
As part of a design competition, the Flight 93 National Memorial Committee awarded the design that transformed the site into a place of symbolic healing. The building geometry resulted from the flight path and crash site locations. Included in the building design were single slope skylights that allow for overhead daylighting and enhance the interior of the Visitor and Learning Center. Situated between a masonry wall and steel structure, Super Sky Products engineered the ribbon of curved, sloped overhead glazing to fit within a niche of the masonry. A subtle slope supports moisture drainage. High performance clear insulated and laminated, heat stregthened, low-E glass allows for exceptional color rendition of the exhibits while keeping the temperature swings unnoticable to the interior.
